Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale isn’t the only Sword Art Online property being released right now, with a PS4 and Vita game called Accel World Vs. Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight slated for a March 16 release in Japan and an expected US release sometime in the summer. The Bandai Namco game is a cross-over between Accel World and Sword Art Online, both are stories created by Reki Kawahara as light novels and are thought to be in the same (or very similar) universes. The new trailer for the game show (and a 15-second tv spot, both below) shows off its action role-playing gameplay, the artwork, and some of the upcoming story. In the game, Kirito and Asuna are in danger of losing Yui as server maintenance endangers her and leaves to a different virtual world. While chasing her Kirito and Asuna stumble upon the Accel World, where “Going beyond time, the accelerated worlds and virtual worlds collide.” There are many playable characters from both Sword Art Online and Accel World including Yuna from the new film Ordinal Scale which you can have in your party. Parties are made up of 3 members from either show and can be freely switched in real-time.
This isn’t the first Sword Art Online game with Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment being released to lukewarm ratings by critics with a 65 on Metacritic and complaints about the translation and that it had lackluster gameplay. However, fans seemed to enjoy it more with a more respectable 7.7 user score liking the additions to the lore and world building. The new game looks to be an improvement over the last so fans should be excited to keep an eye out for any new information about the release in the US. Hopefully this time it won’t have such a bad translation.
